Thinking about starting a Club in your community?
Boys and Girls Clubs are developed in each community by individuals or a group of local citizens who want to help children and youth, and believe that a Boys and Girls Club could address the needs of the young people and families in their community.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada encourages the development of Clubs in areas that are currently underserved and where children and youth need opportunities to grow in a healthy and supportive environment.
All local Boys and Girls Clubs are private, non-profit community-based agencies governed by an autonomous voluntary Board of Directors comprised of local residents. Each Boys and Girls Club secures funding on its own from within the community, from government and from private sources. Visit Start a Club FAQ's for more information on starting a Boys and Girls Club.
Benefits of Membership
All Boys and Girls Clubs are members of the national Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada (BGCC) organization and provincial organizations, where they exist, and pay yearly dues to be members in good standing. In return, member clubs receive these Benefits of Membership.
A Boys and Girls Club may be created through an existing youth organization or from the ground up. An existing organization must demonstrate that it meets the Requirements of Membership of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. For some, this will not require many changes to their existing operation. For others, several steps may be needed in order to meet the requirements.
Phases of New Club Development
For a new organization starting from the ground up, there are three Phases of Development:
Phase One: Community Review
Phase Two: Organization Development
Phase Three: Program Development
New Club Development Toolkit
Once you have reviewed the three phases of club development and are ready to commit to the process of starting a club, please contact the regional Boys and Girls Club office or contact the national office of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to obtain our New Club Development Toolkit.
